With the discontinuation of the Nintendo eShop service for the Nintendo 3DS family of systems, the Pokémon Bank service for Nintendo 3DS will become available at no cost to users.
Paid passes will be discontinued, but users will still be able to access some features-including transferring their Pokémon to Pokémon HOME. Pokémon Bank Services Will Be Available at No Cost to Players It wouldn't be quite the same as original hardware, and you'd lose compatibility with side games like XD, but it'd be good enough for most people. The sad thing is that Nintendo could even partially solve this in a way that profits them massively - by working on emulators for their handhelds and selling the Pokemon franchise on the Switch eshop, adding direct compatibility into Home. Will event Meloetta, for example, ever be transferable to a game before that grace period ends? It's not looking likely a Unova remake will occur before then, so I guess if you have one then enjoy paying a Home subscription fee for a few more years. And at that point you're faced with a choice, transfer all your favourites from years past into Home and be held hostage to paying a subscription fee while waiting for a Pokemon game with a full dex, or never be able to move them past Gen 7. as soon as we can possibly kill off support we willĪnd then that'll be it, Pokemon forward compatibility, a staple of the franchise for decades is dead forever.
